Non-BF&AN promotions .....
What to expect:
Normal Monday Nights
8 pm - Music session from 8 to 9 pm, everyone welcome from beginners to professionals. Mainly trad British tunes, some American.
9 pm -Singers and Musicians - Open Floor
- Everyone who turns up gets the chance to
perform
or you can just listen.
All styles of music are welcome - from traditional songs and tunes to Blues, original material, Ragtime, 60's folk, covers of contempory songs, Cajun, anything really, including the occasional bit of Jazz (not had any death metal yet though- difficult to do death metal acoustic). Live music is what it's all about we're not going to argue about what's folk music and what isn't (cue a quote I've completely forgotten from Louis Armstrong).
The environment is ideal for new singers and
musicians
to practice performing in front of a friendly audience, or for
experienced
performers to try out new songs. The room we meet in has a domed
ceiling,
giving excellent acoustics (buffalo horns now sadly missing).
There is no admission charge, but Ray's hat gets passed around at half time and most people put a pound in, or what they can afford. Barnsley Folk Club is a not for profit organisation, money raised goes towards paying for the performers on guest nights.
Guest Nights (about every six weeks)
Guest nights are really informal gigs, the artist usually does two sets, with short open mike slots before each one and a break in the middle.
We take pride in providing a broad range of quality acts at an affordable admission price (unless it's one of our occasional ticketed events at the KEEL). Again there is no formal admission charge, we normally suggest a contribution of £4, or whatever people can afford. Doors open 8:00pm, music session until 8:30.
Who Comes?
Everyone is welcome. You don't have to be a member - the 'members' are the people that run the club, choose guests, etc - if you are interested, let us know and we'll tell you when the next meeting is
Disabled Access - The
room we use in upstairs and therefore, regrettably, very limited in
terms of disabled access. We are, however, attempting to address
this and have started holding some singers nights downstairs (it
depends on whether the pool team is home or away!).
